Objective
The European Network of Mobility Centres is a European Commission initiative to remove obstacles to the mobility of researchers, to encourage more abundant and more mobile human resources in Europe and to enhance the EU's attractiveness for research talent from all over the world. The overall objective of CAIRDE (the Irish word for "friends") is to strengthen the assistance structures in Ireland for researchers undertaking mobility, with the express aim being the establishment of a dynamic and proactive national support network covering all sectors. Based on the analysis of the current assistance given to mobile researchers, there is an explicit need for a newly established, dedicated central mobility office. This office, which will act as the Bridgehead organisation, will be the hub of the CAIRDE network, specifically supporting the members of the network, individual researchers and with a dedicated approach to supporting industry, particularly SMEs. The CAIRDE network will also utilise the existing expertise in the university sector in Ireland, ensuring a geographically balanced approach. With the foreseen promotion, awareness and assistance campaigns, the numbers of researchers receiving information on mobility issues will significantly increase. By strengthening the national network in Ireland, all the relevant players will be engaged and the resultant impact and benefit to the European Network of Mobility Centres will be significant.'
