Coordination of multidisciplinary knowledge and Research Activities to support Leadership for European Apparel Production From Research along Original Guidelines

Objective

With a turnover of 190 billion Euro and an overall work-force of 2 million employees, the textile and clothing industry is one of the longest and most complicated manufacturing chains, strongly dominated by SMEs. Over the past textile and clothing manufact uring have been improved through many Rip projects and many others are currently on-going at international, national and regional level. In order to withstand growing competition from low labour cost countries there is a need to gather and analyze this sca ttered knowledge in order to provide an holistic approach to solve common manufacturing problems and in the end reach rapid global manufacturing through the concept of the Extended Smart Textile/Garment Organisation. Leapfrog CA aims at creating a knowledg e community through cost-effective coordination of on-going Eureka, IMS, European, national and regional research projects and networking of 39 key consortium representatives from 14 countries. These projects spanning across NMP and 1ST related disciplines have been grouped in four main thematic areas where coordination of research will be performed through the following activities: . Identify current industrial needs, problems and bottlenecks . Identify and review systematically all key emerging knowledge areas and related application fields . Perform a worldwide state-of-the-art survey and patents search . Analyze on a systematic basis the results of all projects finished in the last 5 years and those on-going . Develop guidelines for the implementation of research results and/or best practices in the industry . Develop a future reference production and organisational model . Identify Gaps in research and develop an Integrated Research Roadmap for all four Thematic Areas . Develop a Virtual cooperation plat form for the knowledge community . Establish permanent structures (industrial and scientific expert groups) . promote mobility of researchers, students and industrial #
