Cross-media programming of sports. Enhanced format provisioning and streamlined cross-platform production of live content and additional user information

Objective

LEMATCH is to develop a sports production and delivery platform for adaptive interactive cross-media content focusing on live and real-time content. Target areas are Basketball and Soccer.

Focus 1 are live broadcasts via(ID)TV, Internet, Mobile and on-site installations. F2 are virtually enhanced after match reports. F3 are other team sports. The platform will allow for enhanced format provisioning and streamlined production of live/ real time content and additional user information. It is to be based on mixing augmented-, virtual reality and visual simulation with a/v broadcasting techniques adapting them for delivery onto different delivery channels. LEMATCH will apply the platform in live and real-timesports transmissions.

LEMATCH will develop cross media formats making use of the platform to enhance user experience, opening up new revenue streams, while streamlining business processes and making cross media production efficient. Five different formats are to be developed. F1 is on-site. Real time object tracking will be used to transmit background information to spectators onto private mobile devices in a sports hall. F2 is an IDTV broadcast format. Virtual advertising, virtual graphical overlays and split screens will be used in conjunction with object tracking to generate additional income, enhancing user experience. F3 is a Web-(TV) format.

The technologies in 1 and 2 shall be adapted to reach more interactivity and transaction facilities. F4 is a regional TV format. The same features as in F2 will be integrated - but in a media appropriate slimmed down version. F5 is a mobile format, targeted to fulfil the "right here, right now" content premise. Sports have a driver function for (live) content development. The Monti-initiative will result in an unbundling of sports rights and different sports rights awarding practices. This will lead to new opportunities for new media.
