European clinical research infrastructures network - reciprocal knowledge programme

Objectif

Based on the interconnection of national networks of Clinical Research Centres (CRC) and Clinical Trial Units (CTU) in Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and France, together with the European Forum for Good Clinical Practice, the European Clinical Research Infrastructures Network (ECRIN) programme aims at developing an Infrastructure allowing for bottom-up harmonisation of support, training and practice of Clinical Research, and providing public or biotechnology SME sponsors with a support for translational research and multicentre clinical studies in Europe. This will be achieved through an application to the next FP6 'Integrated Infrastructure Initiatives' I3 call, in March 2005. However, previous work is required to improve the reciprocal knowledge between partners in the ECRIN consortium. This is the purpose of the present ECRIN-Reciprocal Knowledge Programme (RKP). A first-step comparative workshop with restricted attendence (3 per network) will be prepared within the national networks, then organised in Brussels (dec 16-17th). Members of CRC/CTUs from countries not yet connected, and speakers involved in GCP, Ethics and Gender Issues will also be invited. The programme will cover the organisation of CRC/CTUs, of national networks, and their interaction with the national environment of clinical research, allowing for an in-depth discussion addressing the bottlenecks hampering transnational studies. A descriptive and comparative analysis will then be discussed at a second-step Closure Meeting organised in Brussels (Feb 14-15th). In addition, members of CRC/CTU located in other countries, and stakeholders involved in European Clinical Research will be invited to discuss this comparative picture of CRC/CTU. This will lead to a Final Report, published and available on the ECRIN website that will be developed, and to papers on selected topics in scientific journals, addressing the most relevant bottlenecks.
