Transfer of knowledge in biochemistry and molecular biology of cellular membranes in normal cells and in pathological conditions

Objective

Our aim is to transfer the methodology and principles developed at one laboratory to the other institutions and by this cooperation perform multidisciplinary studies not possible on individual basis. The host institution established a strong research capacity in lipid biosynthesis, molecular genetics and proteomic, the Warsaw group is the only in the world capable of synthesizing a number of labelled lipid intermediates and end products while the Krakow group has developed a novel and unique model membrane system and methodology for its investigation. By this cooperation the potential of the host institute will increase greatly. The two Polish institutions have a highly valued position in the scientific community which is however restricted to a narrow field.

Our aim is that they acquire the complementary knowledge and methodology in membrane research developed in the host laboratories and with new fields they reach a leading position. The scientific aim of this proposal is to investigate the structure and function of biological membranes, especially the mechanism of biosynthesis and breakdown. The knowledge in this field is necessary for understanding normal cellular functions and also of basic importance in study of large group of diseases such as atherosclerosis and diabetes. We have a strong scientific position in research of membrane turnover and order to keep up and further strengthen our output in this field we have to acquire new principles and methodology of multidisciplinary nature, methods which are related to fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, analytical and physical chemistry, cell biology and organic synthesis.

The Polish partners have all the basis and qualifications to became the outmost experts in membrane research if they get the appropriate support to broaden their knowledge and methodology to a high level in selective fields of investigation.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
