Thematic workshops for the definition of the science and technology Euro-Mediterranean policy within FP7

Objective

MED 7 is aimed at the organization of 6 S&T Workshops to implement the RTD MonitoringCommittee's (MoCo) conclusions (S&T Barcelona Committee) with identifying scientificpriorities and mechanisms for cooperation with regional impact in the short ter m (from 2007and therefore). The first 5 workshops will deal with topics identified by the MoCo ad hocCommittee meeting in Carmona-Spain 2-4/6/2004) as cooperation priorities, namely, 1) agro-food and industrial agriculture, 2) preservation of cultural heri tage, 3) health, 4) water riskmanagement and renewable energies, 5) innovative production systems and processes. Afinal assessment Workshop will discuss the results of the five workshops and serve as asynthesis Workshop. The ultimate objective is to provid e S&T work input for the preparation ofthe forthcoming "INCO-MED" activities.The synthesis workshop will try to strengthen co-ordination and complementarity with activitiescarried out by means of Community foreign policy instruments, and to support par ticular jointefforts by the Community and the Member States to the opening up of the ERA to the rest ofthe worldMoreover, this action has the following main priorities:- Identification of areas with potential for enhanced co-ordination between and with the Member States, the Associated Candidate States, the Associated States and Third PartnerCountries;- Develop, promote, organise and structure the participation of INCO target countries in theactivities of the FP, especially in the thematic priorities;- Defin ition of comprehensive international co-operation schemes including Communityexternal and RTD#'
