Objective
The strategic objectives addressed through the ERASMUS project are to propose an innovative ATM solution able to face the challenge of traffic demand (2011 + horizon), and to improve the efficiency and safety level of the European Air Transport System as stated in the ACARE Strategic Research Agenda. ERASMUS is an air-ground cooperative project which is aiming to define and validate innovative automation for the Sector Safety and Productivity while maintaining the controllers in the decision-making loop.
The controller when extrapolating the present position and speed of each individual aircraft takes large margins of manoeuvre because of limited accuracy. The fuzzy environment in which controllers work represents an area of autonomy in which the computer can act using GPS navigation precision, air/ground communication facilities and airborne flight management system.
