Informed dialogue about consumer acceptability of rights management solutions in Europe

Objective

This project aims to provide a contribution in the context of pressing questions regarding consumer acceptability of rights management solutions for eContent. For this purpose INDICARE will establish an "Informed Dialogue", open to consumers and all stakeholders along eContent value chains. The project will provide valuable input to a common European understanding of appropriate rights management solutions, further consensus building and thus lead potentially to increased acceptability of paid digital content and rights management solutions.

The "Informed Dialogue" will be organised mainly by means of electronic communication using e-mail exchange, web logs, and a web site for communication, timely information, networking and dissemination of deliverables. The Informed Dialogue is structured and developed by high quality input produced by the consortium and active participants. Input animating this dialogue will derive from state-of-the-art information about consumer acceptability, a series of focused workshops (on business models, social exclusion and the disabled, digital rights management systems, human factors, eContent payments) and a European consumer survey performed twice at European level.

Results of the project will finally be presented in the form of a European Consumer's Guide to eContent serving as a useful tool to inform consumers and the public.
