High-Performance Computing for Multidisciplinary Dynamic Simulation of Mechanisms

Exploitable results

The IMBA is an X-band microwave transceiver using the Doppler effect, a frequency shift phenomena when an irradiated object is moving in the antenna range. IMBA meets the increased interest of the market in low-power, low-noise microwave sensors and performs more than the same circuitry realized with the off-the shelf components, either in terms of feature and costs. The whole system comprises both active devices (the oscillator and mixer) and an external antenna. IMBA gallium arsenide monolithic microwave integrated circuit know-how has been achieved and new oscillator methodology has been set-up. The technical features make IMBA module the prime consideration for any Doppler-based low cost system, such as room intrusion alarm, vehicle intrusion alarm, door openers, speed measurement, distance measurement and access control related applications. Currently, the IMBA results are being used to produce measurements and tests for a comparison of its performances with the non-integrated already existing version and results can be applied to new field of applications outwith the context of alarm systems Necessary knowledge has been gained for the further designs and following realizations of integrated circuits on gallium arsenide substrate Depending on the lowering of the package price, Laboratori Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi intends to replace the hybrid version of the microwave Doppler sensor with the developed integrated circuit.
