Objective
The objective of the ACRO project is to design an autonomous cleaning robot for use in industrial and commercial environments such as airports, offices, supermarkets and factories.
The approach will include:
- programming at the task level, with heavy emphasis on ease of use to meet the needs of unskilled operators
- model-based navigation, supported by sensor and gyroscope input
- autonomous operation, with ultrasonic sensors for collision avoidance
- development of mechatronic devices and sensors to automate the cleaning process.
Emphasis at all points will be on low-cost components.
Two industrial partners who use cleaning equipment will evaluate the prototypes resulting from the project. The project results will be incorporated in products which will be marketed by vendor consortium members.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
