Integrated Multilevel Power Network Voltage Control

Objective

The objective of IMPROVE is to develop a system to control the supply voltage of electricity generation and distribution systems at a number of different levels. These would be the generating plant itself (voltage regulation and reactive power control), the interaction between a number of generating plants, and the distribution from the group of generating plants to consumers.

The approach taken will be to demonstrate the implementation of a hierarchy of adaptive controllers as a geographically distributed multilevel control system. The adaptive controllers will minimise the instability caused by the problems of synchronisation between individual generators.

After the control techniques have been tested in the electricity generation control environment, the control components will be available for use in other applications (such as the control of large refineries) which share the same problems of load disturbance rejection and supervisory coordination.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
