Final Report Summary - STRUBA (Computational modelling of structural batteries)

The aim of the STRUBA project has been to investigate the effect of electrochemical-mechanical interactions on structural batteries. To address the complexity of these processes, atomistic simulations were employed to characterize the solid polymer electrolyte matrix material and the matrix-fiber interface in mechanical terms; at the continuum level, dedicated computational techniques have been developed including embedded inclusion approaches, accelerated solution techniques based on machine learning, and FE2 multiscale solution procedures. The results obtained so far indicate that structural batteries with random fiber electrodes can perform close to traditional particle-based batteries.
