Mobile ticketing system for urban transport

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - BLEticket (Mobile ticketing system for urban transport)

Reporting period: 2014-09-01 to 2014-11-30

The current innovation business project was submitted and approved on June 2014 as a SME Instrument (SMEI) Phase 1 with a total score of 13.43 (4.47 / 4.46 / 4.50). After the execution of Phase 1, during three months, all the objectives have been achieved. ActioTicket offers a technology that represents a real-breakthrough in the mobile access solutions. During the market assessment it has been stated that not all the market segments within the public transport system are ready to use mobile e-ticketing as unique e-ticketing system, but other market sectors within the Intelligence Transport System (ITS), such as public parking lots, have shown their interest in trying this new solution.
During the development of Phase 1, the BLEticket solution, has evolved into a new concept, the ActioTicket solution: a mobile-based innovation aimed to become a common way for citizens to pay and gain access to a wide range of public services provided by Smart Cities
The outputs for each one of the task demonstrate that the ActioTicket solution is free to operate in terms of IPR. During the execution of Phase 1, several scenarios have been studied and the output shows the solution to be relevant in the current market with room for development in order to offer a complete set of tools for end-users (transport companies and operators).
The economic feasibility of ActioTicket has also been widely analysed and the results show that the business model is viable (EBITDA margin = 30% after 6 years in the market).
Furthermore, a work plan for future steps has been developed, which involve the presentation of a Phase II proposal. The main objective for GEOACTIO is to become a lead company in the area of mobile e-ticketing for the ITS sector. Several pilot tests in different sectors are also planned for the Phase II executions, which will allow the company to develop and grow significantly.
During the first stage of Phase II the company will complete the development of the Validator to be implemented in the pilot scenarios, the mobile app will be adapted to the end user requirements and/or existing transport information app/libraries, and the cloud back-end platform will be evolved and consolidated to fully satisfy market expectation. At the same time, the pilots will be deeply studied and a deployment plan will be defined together with the customers/partners. The pilot cases will last a minimum of 6 months and the company will monitor the development and support with any issues that might come during the pilots. Feedback from the passengers and other users of the system will be collected as well as the transportation company in order to validate and optimize the service.
