Fieldbus Components

Objective

The objective of FICOMP is to develop the hardware and software components needed to provide a complete fieldbus communication environment which complies with international standards. The components will comprise a communication chip, communication software and a PC board.

The approach will be:

- develop a fieldbus machine composed of a high-performance micro-programmed communication co-processor and the associated software which will implement the time critical services of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Data Link and Application Layers
- implement the non-time critical services of the IEC Application Layer Services in software to be executed in the host
- develop a PC board to evaluate the fieldbus machine and its associated software; this board would be used in the development of user application software communicating with remote applications by means of IEC Fieldbus Protocols.

The approach will provide a complete fieldbus communication environment, and will provide a migration path between system communication using fieldbus national standards and the international standard. The results will be incorporated in components and field devices marketed by the hardware and software vendor members of the consortium.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
