climote Advanced Demand Management of Heating and Cooling

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - climote (climote Advanced Demand Management of Heating and Cooling)

Reporting period: 2015-04-01 to 2015-09-30

The report explores the plan to roll-out an advanced domestic demand management product, climote ADAM. The product is designed by climote, a European SME focused on domestic energy management. climote ADAM benefits both home owners and energy companies by providing energy savings for households, while enabling national energy companies to manage the supply and demand of renewable energy to the home.
climote ADAM builds on climote’s first product, the climote HUB, and enables consumers to manage up to 80% of the energy they use in the home from anywhere in the world. It chooses the most cost-effective and carbon-effective way to heat/cool the space and water for the consumer and allows utilities to optimise domestic demand remotely. Deployed at scale, entire countries can improve their domestic carbon management at grid level, ultimately helping Governments meet their carbon reduction targets.
The study sought to validate these assertions and develop the business plan for a wider roll-out of climote ADAM in Europe, covering both technical and commercial aspects, with a full risk assessment.
To date, climote has followed a sustainable revenue model which combines an attractive commercial proposition with clean energy incentives. climote needs to follow a similar model to succeed in the rest of Europe. The proposal was reviewed with key industry stakeholders who were unanimous in their support and endorsement of climote ADAM.
Last year, climote set up a test-bed of over 2,000 homes in Ireland, which now use the climote HUB to control their domestic heating and hot water. climote now wish to add climote ADAM to this test-bed in Ireland and then replicate it in targeted countries in Europe, initially Scotland, Spain and France. In-country testing will identify key deployment differences and enable full alignment with local clean energy goals, facilitating in-country localisation and providing the data for local energy saving approvals. Local energy certification from each country is an important outcome to enable scalable deployment across Europe
The project is technically feasible and low commercial risk. Even without grid-level demand there is a strong business case to deploy the product across Europe, but with it the Europe-wide opportunity is huge.
