Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

The main goal of YouBeep project is to allow shoppers to do the checkout of a full shopping cart, pay and leave the store in under a minute, using only a Smartphone. To achieve this goal XHOCHWARE has developed a new concept of self-checkout systems, based on mobile technology, able to be implemented in retailers Point of Sale (POS) without the necessity of buying new terminals or any software integration. Hence, YouBeep has established a new benchmark for state-of-the-art self-checkout systems providing a new approach for shoppers and retailers that will change the way people do their shopping in a retail store.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

The pilot trials enabled YouBeep to address all aspects of the shopping process, from organizing the shopping at home, to helping shoppers save time and money while in store. On the other hand, for Retailers, this product will promote (i) internal efficiency, (ii) cut costs, (iii) increase revenue, (iv) increase foot traffic and (v) increase customer satisfaction. Due to the feasibility study, XHOCHWARE proposes to achieve the whole value chain, providing a complete, revolutionary and disruptive concept and architecture (product/system and service) to retailers that allows them to implement a dynamic solution at the minimum cost compared to the competition, and ZERO POS integration issues!

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

The challenge for Europe is to capture the benefits from developing consumer-oriented platforms that require a strong cooperation between the telecom, hardware, software and service industries, to create and master innovative Internet Ecosystems. The tasks executed during the pilot phase determined the market feasibility and a better understanding of clients' needs. Concrete actions were taken during the project to secure the follow-on commercialization and impact potential in the project foreground making it scalable, replicable and with high impact to our clients and XHOCKWARE. We increased the reputation/visibility of YouBeep as a local (soon to be worldwide) recognized payment/checkout option available in Porto (Portugal) and Lisbon (Portugal). And this positions XHOCKWARE as one of the most innovative retail solutions Portuguese companies.
