Objective
The objective of ADMIRE is to reduce the levels of expertise required and the design cycle time needed to develop mixed signal circuits, and so also reduce their cost.
A global functional specification of the mixed signal design system and the corresponding design methodology has been developed. The embedded tools which will be integrated into a prototype computer aided design (CAD) environment are currently being developed and refined. High performance, mixed signal demonstrators are being identified in various application areas and will be used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new CAD tool.
The approach will be to develop an integrated tool set (simulation, synthesis, layout generation) that covers all design aspects, including innovative tools such as analogue synthesis, and that frees the designer from the burden of handling details specific to mixed signal design. An extensive library of functions will be provided.
An important feature of the tool set will be the ability to remain technology independent for as long as possible in the design cycle, to obtain a better design portability, and to be able to refocus the design onto a new technology relatively late in the process design cycle.
The project will focus on digital signal processing systems with analogue parts, which are typical in applications such as cellular phones telecommunications), high definition television and video processing (consumer electronics), and global positioning and engine control (automotive).
