Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

Aalborg Rørteknik ApS ambition is to build and sustain high growth by becoming a major player in the global market of sanitation solutions applicable in remote areas. The company forecasts to achieve total revenues of €47.7 Million with net profits of €22.8 Million within five years. The present feasibility study represents a key step towards the implementation of our overall innovation project, the primary goal of which is – through market replication, full-scale demonstration and adaptation – to scale our solution into remote areas, starting with NGOs staff. Through the large number of interviews and meetings with NGOs base camps chiefs of operation and Danish Army, the demand for Remote Sanitation was clearly verified. Our analysis shows that our ambitions may be fulfilled if a focused route-to-market strategy is followed.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

During the reporting period the following was accomplished:

• Completed a market investigation including relief organizations and Danish Army;
• Completed a competitor analysis - competing solutions generally lack the needed features of the segment or tend to be too expensive;
• Signed up Danish Red Cross for testing the solution;
• Applied technical refinements on the wastewater treatment;
• Found that Remote Sanitation is an Anticipated approach in comparison with prior art;
• Further development and enhancement of the business plan.

The concept and approach, as well as the impact was validated favourably through the feasibility study. We have concluded that the overall strategic vision should be expanded. Larger markets, mainly NGOs and relief organizations including refugees and internally displaced people, and military camps should be addressed. Moreover, secondary markets such as, mining and oil camps were considered important markets to be targeted in the future.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

Remote Sanitation solution will significantly improve the living conditions of NGOs and military camps’ staff and refugees. It will also have a massive impact in the local environment. By commercializing its innovative solution, ART expects the following socio-economic impact (Year-Net profits € /New Employees):
