Résumé du contexte et des objectifs généraux du projet

The period of the report covers the calendar years 2015 and 2016. Enterprise Ireland is the sole partner in this project.
The action context and the objectives are as follows;
WP1 - Key Account Management for the beneficiaries of the SME Instrument.
WP2 - Enhancing SME innovation management capacity for innovating SMEs independently from a specific project.

Ireland has the highest success rate in Europe for the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument with a 16% success rate compared to a European average of 6% (up to October 2016). Innovative Irish SMEs have received €26.5million from the SME Instrument which places Ireland first in Europe for successful participation in this part of Horizon 2020. This success is attributed to the ambitions of a large number of Seed Companies applying to Horizon 2020. Not only are Irish companies being successful, they are also targeting larger sums of money than comparable companies across Europe. To date, this represents an investment of €26.5 million in innovative Irish SMEs, enabling accelerated growth of these companies.

Progrès au-delà de l’état des connaissances et impact potentiel prévu (y compris l’impact socio-économique et les conséquences sociétales plus larges du projet jusqu’à présent)

Irish SMEs play a vital role in the growth of the Irish economy and the success of Irish companies at a European level validates the supports provided by Enterprise Ireland to develop high growth, highly innovative SMEs that have the innovative solutions and capability to win Horizon 2020 funding. The commercialisation of their project outcomes will be critical in driving these companies to further international growth.

Enterprise Europe Network Ireland’s KAM activity supported 56 SMEs during the 2015 and 2016 period.

We had no uptake from SMEs regarding EIMC activity despite a letter of invite to take up the offering being sent to several selected companies. Due to the extra KAM activities in relation to the SME Instrument success a decision was made not to engage with the EIMC activity as there was no spare capacity for additional work.
The Work Programme’s implementation has helped meet the needs as outlined in the Implementation Strategy.
