Deliverables
Health and safety of industrial up-scaling and validation (opens in new window)
The main activities will focus on supporting partners identifying and assessing the potential for release and exposure associated with industrial up-scaling and validation, using the same standards-based approaches undertaken in preceding stages of the project. Desk-based evaluation, using an established HAZOP/HAZAN approach, supplemented where appropriate by workplace assessments, will be conducted to identify and characterise safety measures necessary with scaled-up production and processing activities to mitigate any potential risks.
Education programme prepared (opens in new window)• Preparation of an educational programme defining objectives, target audiences, training needs and skills. Support the project with course modules with the collaboration of all the partners. The course material will be planned as lectures at consortium meetings and distributed to the collaborating partners for use in their organisations
Initial report on the LCA approach (opens in new window)Life Cycle analysis approach for materials, processes and components.
Evaluation of nanomaterials safety with the development of nanoscale components with advanced functionalities for incorporation in bulk resin materials. (opens in new window)Results from the identification of safety issues, hazard assessment and exposure measurements will be drawn together subsequently to identify common and bespoke findings from across individual partners’ sites and activities, to inform the development of industry-focussed guidance in WP 7 on the safe production and handling of the nanoparticles, nano-containing intermediates and products developed and any necessary control measures to minimise the risk to human health amongst workers, researchers and end-users.
A report of completed and planned communication activities (opens in new window)A report of completed and planned communication activities_12 (opens in new window)
Year 1 • To assure that there is an on-going communication between the consortium and the general public.
A report of completed and planned communication activities_24 (opens in new window)Year 2 • To assure that there is an on-going communication between the consortium and the general public.
Initial report on the nano-related EIROS safety (opens in new window)A review of the different processes will be undertaken to ensure we will utilise appropriate protocols and experimental set up harmonised with other EU projects on nano-safety through liaison with the NanoSafety Cluster and nano-toxicity. Information on the materials, uses, processes, potential hazards and exposures within the scope of the project will be gathered from the literature and project partners through a survey and scoping visits as necessary.
• Web-site: At the start of the project a comprehensive EIROS website will be created to facilitate the dissemination of the project to third parties and the general public (public facing element). Throughout the project the website will be updated at least every 3 months. This will contain external dissemination materials and publishable data.
General press release available to all partners for dissemination to 3rd Parties. (opens in new window)• A general press release will be prepared describing the general objectives and features of the project to be issued and made available to each participant for dissemination to third parties, placement on partner websites and in relevant publications. A press release will be issued at the end of the project and at strategic points throughout the project subject to agreement by all partners.

Development and characterization of reactive self-healing systems and encapsulation technologies. Incorporation into bulk resin matrices (opens in new window)Development of microencapsulated self-healing reactive systems. Dispersion and incorporation of these microcapsules into the bulk resins. - Assessment of self-healing reactive systems. - Encapsulation of self-healing reactive systems. - Incorporation and dispersion of self-healing microcapsules into the bulk resin systems.
• A “Public Day” will be organised mid-term of the project where leading organisations and persons of the manufacturing industry will be invited and the EIROS presented and discussed with experts.
