Objetivo
The objective of IT-CIM is to define a method and implement test tools to improve support for the installation, commissioning, daily operation and maintenance of open, multi-vendor systems in a manufacturing environment. The project will include the testing of the communication components and the evolving standard application functions among them MMS-like protocols, used for industrial messaging, or either LAN or fieldbus configurations.
The approach will be to define integration test suites and develop integration test tools. The test suites and tools will be based on existing technology, which consists of tools for conformance testing, interoperability testing, performance measurement and network management. Particular attention will be paid to the user interface, so that the test suites and tools can be used by engineers who are not test specialists.
The integration test tools will consist of central and distributed tools. The central tool will be capable of simulating part of the distributed application. The distributed tools will consist of test programs implementing the integration test suites in the environment where the application is running. The execution of the distributed test programs will be controlled by a test pilot using standardised test management functions. The flow of traffic (for fieldbus) will be observed via an intelligent monitor, using an interpretation function.
Pilot demonstration and validation are foreseen on a trial platform and on pilot sites provided by users. The results will be useful to system integrators. Products and services based on the results will be marketed by consortium members.
