Objective
The objective of the 3D SCAN project is to improve the technology available for 3D optical inspection and to demonstrate prototype 3D optical scanning systems integrated into different CIM environments.
The work will cover:
- formulation and promotion of a range image standard, which will allow three-dimensional measurements from any sensor to be processed in a standard way by CAD/CAM or other applications
- development of a laser stripe sensor for use on a coordinate measuring machine, an intelligent 3D sensor, and a Fourier fringe analysis sensor
- development of a prototypeRange image toolbox to translate range images into CAD surfaces suitable for CAD/CAM systems
Three pilot applications are foreseen, in reverse engineering, inspection and on-line process control. First prototypes of all systems have been demonstrated in October 1993. Final results will be incorporated in products marketed by consortium members.
