In SALTED, recent advances in computational geodynamics, developed as part of the ERC StG MODEL, are exploited and applied to industrial problems. In particular, we used it to predict the stress distributions in sedimentary basins and potential drilling hazard, to predict the stresses and deformation within and around salt domes, applied to the Gorleben salt dome in Germany. We also used our technology to rapidly model tectonic evolution of salt domes on geological timescales in 3D, while taking poro-elasticity, including multiple tectonic events and time-varying sedimentation rates into account. Results show that this may help to better understand and predict the stresses and tectonics of a certain region of industrial interest, which may result in future applied follow-up projects.
