The issues being addressed by 3SST2015 project is to identify and prioritise sensors (radars, telescopes and laser stations) controlled by the SST Consortium MS which need to be either updated or renewed in order to improve the overall performance of the SST Support Framework. This activity will result in an action plan, where scope and priorities will be defined, including research and innovation actions with the aim to investigate new technology in order to upgrade and develop new assets forming the future SST Support Framework system.
3SST2015 specifically aims at the definition of an action plan (including scope, priorities and R&D activities) and both the implementation of upgrades on sensors and the planning for the development of new sensors with the goal of delivering improved SST standardised services for users specified in the EU SST framework Decision 541-2014.
It is expected, that the different operational setups within the MS will foster a process of “comparing and learning from each other” which will not only have an impact on reconfiguration of national assets but will also have to be mirrored towards international partners and cooperation. The final goal is the increase of the service quality in terms of awareness about risk of collision in space fragmentation and space object risky re-entry on ground.
