Improvement of the life of the blast furnace by the prevention of heat losses

Objective

The control of gas and materials flow near the walls of the shaft as well as of the hearth to reach low and stable heat losses without building thick accretions on the walls should increase the life of blast furnaces.

To be studied are: - mathematical models of heat transfer through the cooled walls; - tests on a 2 dimensional model to investigate the formation of the coke/sinter mixed layer. Tests on a 3 dimensional model of hearth; - tests on blast furnace and sinter probings near the walls for a better understanding of the mixed layer, vertical probings near the walls to relate charging with the heat losses, radioactive tracers in iron and slag to demonstrate the influence of stagnant zones. Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
