Study of the permeability factors in the blast furnace with extremely low coke consumption

Objective

The aim of this project is to investigate the factors that influence the movement of solids and the pressure drop of gases to the point where the limit in coke input is attained. Use is made of 1:10 scale model of terento BP N°5 which proved reliable for determining solids descent behaviour in a previous study supported by the ECSC. Various thermodynamically possible situations are simulated in the model; these are defined by means of heat-and-mass balance mathematical models. The study of the critical factors in the blast furnace process that determine the minimum coke rate, is a field not yet explored and a great interest.
