Massive coal injection in the blast furnace

Objective

The aim of the research is to inject massive quantities of coal at the main tuyères of a blast furnace using cold blast with a very high oxygen content. This pig iron production system has numerous advantages which may be summarized as follows: - very low coke rate of around 200-250 kg per tonne of hot metal; - fuel diversification as a result of injecting some 375 kg of coal; - elimination of hot-blast stoves; - higher calorific value of the top gas: about 6 Kj/Nm 3 compared to 3 to 3.5 Kj/Mn3 for conventional operation with or without coal injection; - low silicon content in the pig iron; - improved blast furnace productivity;

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
