Objective THE AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO FIND WAYS OF IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF THE BLAST FURNACE BURDEN. TO OBTAIN LOW COKE CONSUMPTION AND HIGH OUTPUT, THE BURDEN MUST BE EASILY REDUCED BUT RETAIN SUFFICIENT MECHANICAL STRENGTH DURING REDUCTION. THE RELATION BETWEEN SINTER AND PELLET PROPERTIES AND THE MOST IMPORTANT VARIABLES, SUCH AS THE COMPOSITION OF THE ORE MIX, CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND PROCESS PARAMETERS, WILL BE DETERMINED BY MEANS OF A SIMULATOR. THE SUITABILITY OF THE TEST BURDEN FOR PROCESSING IN THE BLAST FURNACE WILL BE ASSESSED BY THE OSIM TEST, WHICH WILL PROVIDE FIGURES FOR THE GAS UTILIZATION TO BE EXPECTED IN THE BLAST FURNACE, THIS BEING DIRECTLY RELATED TO COKE CONSUMPTION, AND THE GRANULOMETRY OF THE MATERIAL AND MECHANICAL STRENGTH AFTER REDUCTION. THE EFFECT OF THE MINERALOGICAL COMPOSITION OF THE ORE MIX AND THE ADDITIONS, AND OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF CAO, MGO AND SIO2 WILL BE EXAMINED.
