Objective
IN A COMMUNITY PROJECT UNDERTAKEN BY THE VDEH, BASIC PROBLEMS WHICH NEED TO BE SOLVED IF THE PROPORTION OF CONTINUOUSLY CAST STEEL GRADES IS TO BE INCREASED WILL BE DEALT WITH.
THE FOLLOWING TOPICS WILL BE EXAMINED UNDER THIS RESEARCH PROJECT:
- DETERMINATION OF THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN HOT CRACK FORMATION, THE SOLIDIFICATION SEQUENCE AND THE HIGH-TEMPERATURE MATERIALS PROPERTIES OF HIGH ALLOY STEELS IN THE CONTINUOUS CASTING OF SLABS;
- EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF CONTRACTION IN SOLIDIFYING STEELS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A THEORETICAL MODEL FOR THE CALCULATION OF STRESSES, ACCOUNT BEING TAKEN OF THE VISCO-PLASTIC PROPERTIES OF THE CASTING SKIN MEASURED AT HIGH TEMPERATURES;
- MEASUREMENT OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE PROPERTIES DIRECTLY AFTER THE MELT HAS COOLED IN TENSILE AND CREEP TESTS AND WITH SIMULATION OF THE CYCLIC THERMAL AND MECHANICAL STRESSES OF CONTINUOUS CASTING FOR AUSTENITIC AND AUSTENITIC-FERRITIC STEELS, HIGH-SPEED STEELS, VALVE STEELS, DYNAMO STEELS AND MICRO-ALLOY CONTRUCTIONAL STEELS;
- CALCULATION OF STRESSES AND EXPANSIONS DURING THE CUTTING OF CRACK-SENSITIVE CONTINUOUSLY CAST SLABS AS A FUNCTION OF CASTING PARAMETERS, TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION, PRECIPITATION BEHAVIOUR AND PROCESS CONDITIONS DURING FLAME CUTTING.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
