Crack prevention in continuous casting

Objective

The quality requirements of continuously cast products continues to increase, especially in terms of very small cracks. Furthermore, there is a distinct trend towards those grades of steel, which have a greater tendency to form cracks. In order to determine the precise origin of these defects, the research work will include high resolution, mathematical modelling of the thermal and mechanical behaviour of billets and slabs, including the inter-roll bulging and the constraints due to faults in alignment.
