Objective
In order to avoid the drawbacks of differential solidification between the centre and the periphery of continuous cast material, it is planned to feed the machine with a steel slurry. The aim of the research is to develop a casting technique in which the slurry phase is introduced into the casting nozzle. The use of the nozzle as a heat exchanger will be studied followed by the creation of significant shear stresses in the peripheral layers by mechanical and electrical means. This will be applied to the casting of both billets and blooms of high carbon steel. The work is linked with that proposed by BSC (P2148).
