Objective
Preliminary study aimed at evaluating the technological feasibility and possible productivity of the direct casting between mill rolls of steel plates or plate blanks. Efforts will concentrate chiefly on the molten metal feed, the thermal balance of the mould and the metallurgical quality of the blanks. This project, along with the other routes that are currently being developed - namely horizontal casting and casting between twin rolls, is one of the international challenges of the year 2000. As in Japan and the United States, pursuit of this line of research is one of the Commission's long-term objectives.
