Objective
The study is aimed at defining and developing techniques which will allow an output of 200 to 250,000 tonnes per month of very high quality slabs, the work to be carried out at the No. 1 continuous slab caster at the Fos-sur-mer works of the S.A. Solmer.
The aims are: 1. At caster level: to attain casting speeds of 1.8 to 2 m per minute. 2. At works level: techniques which can be implemented to regroup slabbing control: twinned casting, lengthwise slitting, edging on the vertical stand of the strip mill.
