Objective
The aim of this project is to base the classification of continuously cast products, in particular from the standpoint of their mechanical properties, on the analysis of a picture of their segregation and microstructure, which is compared with a standard picture. The research programme comprises the development of a reproducible technique for obtaining replicas, the development of a system for the optical transmission of the picture to a computer for analysis, and the establishment of statistical relationships between the appearance of the picture and the associated mechanical properties.
