Objective
The main objectives of the research are to identify the benefits to strand surface quality associated with the use of mould surface coatings, to identify coating suitable for service conditions and to conduct production trials for the assessment of these coatings. This latter phase, which will define the effects on mould performance and the related quality of the strand surface, will be undertaken on a casting machine producing billets, of 140mm section at the United Engineering Steels (Rotterham) steel plant.
