Objective
Metallurgical process technology makes it possible today to adjust the carbon content in the steel melt to a very low level by means of vacuum technology. In subsequent stages of the process, before the final product is obtained, undesirable carbonisation takes place, however. The various sources of this phenomenon will be examined from the quantitative point of view in a laboratory and in the works. The aim is to prevent as far as possible any uptake of carbon, thereby creating the conditions for the production of the new "ultra-low-carbon steel".
