Objective

To study the influence of MgO concentration in VLF slags on hydrogen content of steels; micro-inclusions in steel; sulphur content and rate of desulphurisation of steel; refractory attack at the slag line; physical properties of slag. To optimise the methods of controlling slag MgO contents during refining and assess the effects on the castability of the refined steel.
