Objective
This project will build on a previous project (7210.GB/106) whereby ultrasound, generated by a pulsed laser, proved feasible for thickness and defect measurement at high temperatures. This project seeks to extend and refine the method and to develop the use of a Fabry-Perot interferometer to measure the ultrasound. It will also explore a number of potential applications, notably hot thickness measurements, solidification processes and defects in hot components in the laboratory and under production conditions.
