Determination of strip to strip weld quality in continuous processes

Objective

The research involves developing a very rapid and reliable system for the non-destructive examination of butt welds used to join strip in rolling mills, pickeling and continuous annealing lines. The system will perform the following tasks: - determination of the inner soundness of the weld itself and its immediate vicinity with the aid of a contact-free ultrasonic method, possibly supplemented by an electromagnetic method; - dimensional inspection by optical examination of the weld bead, i.e. the uniformity of the surface and the edge condition as well as strip alignment. An image processing method will be used. The complete system will be designed to be applied to hot and cold strip in thickness ranging from 0.2 to 5mm.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
