Objective
The aim of this research project is to investigate methods of detecting small non-metallic inhomogeneities in cold-rolled and/or tinned strip and in a second phase to develop a suitable detection system. Particular attention will be paid to thermal techniques and the selected system will be employed for static and dynamic laboratory testing. Typical inhomogeneities include laminations, inclusions, cold rolling marks, slivers, casting powder inclusions, etc.. The ultimate aim of such a system, besides improvement in quality, is to provide a basis for certification for quality critical customers.
