ALUMINOUS OXIDIZED PHASES IN STEELS.

Objective

TO ENABLE THE STEELMAKER TO MONITOR AND CONTROL INCLUSIONS IN STEELS, ESPECIALLY CONTINUOUSLY CAST STEELS, THE ANALYST MUST BE IN A POSITION TO IDENTIFY AND QUANTIFY THE VARIOUS OXIDISED INCLUSIONS. IN THE FINAL STEEL-MAKING STAGE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THE DEGREE OF CLEANLINESS OF THE METAL AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF VARIOUS ELEMENTS BETWEEN METALLIC AND INCLUSION PHASES (ALUMINIUM-KILLED STEELS FOR EXAMPLE). IT IS THEREFORE NECESSARY TO OBTAIN THE MOST ACCURATE RESULTS POSSIBLE BY USING SUITABLE CHEMICAL METHODS OF ANALYSIS:

1) CHEMICAL ANALYSIS:
THE MEASUREMENTS WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY ATOMIC ABSORPTION AND OPTICAL EMISSION SPECTROMETRY WITH PLASMA BEAM EXCITATION
2) ELECTROCHEMICAL DISSOLVING:
STUDY OF ELECTROCHEMICAL SEPARATION METHODS CARRIED OUT BY DISSOLVING THE IRON MATRIX.
3) PHYSICAL ANALYSIS:
OPTICAL EMISSION SPECTROMETRY WITH MILD EXCITATION. AN ANALYSER OF THE LECO RO 316 TYPE WILL BE USED FOR THE OXYGEN PHASES.

THIS RESEARCH WILL HELP TOWARDS THE PRODUCTION OF NEW STEEL GRADES WITH A LOW CONTENT OF DEOXIDISING ELEMENTS.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
