Objective
A machine readable system is to be developed for slabs and billets that will take account of the specific requirements in this field and in which the information marked on a semi-finished product will be recorded on a secure data carrier. Once a suitable data carrier has been selected a marking system in which identification numbers can be used in coded and uncoded form will be developed and tested. In addition, a suitable reading system will be developed which operates reliably at high temperatures. In the final phase of the research, industrial trials are planned involving the marking and automatic identification of slabs and billets.
