Objective
THIS RESEARCH PROJECT IS ONE OF THOSE INTENDED TO IMPROVE THE DIMENSIONAL QUALITIES AND INCREASE THE OUTPUT OF LONG PRODUCTS SUCH AS SHEET PILING, BEAMS AND ANGLES.
THE IDEA IS TO ASSURE AND CHECK, BY MEANS OF REAL-TIME DYNAMIC MONITORING, THE BEHAVIOUR OF MILL ROLLS AND THE OVERALL DIMENSIONAL CONSISTENCY OF THE PRODUCT AFTER EACH PASS. THE RESEARCH IS CONSEQUENTLY PURSUING THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES:
- TO DEVELOP AND CONSTRUCT A SYSTEM FOR MEASURING THE VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL DISPLACEMENTS OF THE ROLLS DURING THE ROLLING OF LONG PRODUCTS SUCH AS SHEET PILING, BEAMS AND ANGLES;
- TO STUDY THE SIZE AND SHAPE OF PRODUCTS AT THE EXIT FROM THE PASS;
- TO STUDY THE INTEGRATION OF THE NEWLY-DEVELOPED SYSTEM INTO AN ON-LINE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE MONITORING OF ROLL SEPARATION.
THE TESTING WORK IS BEING CARRIED OUT ON THE INTERMEDIATE-FINISHING STAND IN ARBED'S NO.2 MILL AT ESCH-BELVAL. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS STAND ARE:
- TWO-HIGH REVERSING MILL;
- ROLL DIAMETER: 950-1000 MM;
- TABLE WIDTH: 2500 MM;
- DRIVE: 2 X 1180 KW, 52-180 REV-MIN;
- ROLLING SPEEDS: 0-8 M-S;
- ROLL FORCES: MAX. 1000 T.
