Toughness of welded joints

Objective

The project is aimed at examining the mechanical properties of welded joints in steel grades FeE 335 TM (up to 100 mm wall thickness) and FeE 460 TM (up to 80 mm wall thickness) produced with little or no pre-heat for a range of welding energy input and cooling rates. Mechanical properties will be obtained from tensile and Charpy-V impact tests. Toughness properties will be obtained from fracture mechanics testing methods, and failure behaviour of small-scale welded components in the elastic-plastic and fully plastic regime will be determined.
