Objective
The main aims of this project are: - The development of methods for evaluating the silicon film deposited by alkaline electrolytic degreasing; - The study of the various gas/metal reactions which take place during the basic annealing of pre-degreased sheet as a function of the annealing conditions, e.g. hydrogen content, hydrogen throughput, temperature; - The assessment of the surface state of annealed and skin-passed tinplate, in terms of surface contamination (surface silicon content, iron fines) and the composition of the outer layers; - Study of the effectiveness of electrolytic pickling in a sulphuric medium. This research is aimed in particular at examining the operations, which are responsible for the surface condition of tinplate.
