Objective
A knowledge of the corrosion and scaling mechanisms of coating is necessary to define the optimum conditions (pre-treatment) for applying organic coatings on low alloy steels. It is planned to study the corrosion behaviour of these steels using electrochemical and physico-chemical methods. The laboratory tests will be accompanied by tests in natural sea-water. A second series of tests will be undertaken on the paintability of these steels and their scaling behaviour, weldability and effect of cathodic protection.
