Objective The aim of this project is to develop a commercially viable, low alloy, structural steel that will provide optimum corrosion resistance for continuous exposure to marine environments, particularly in the splash and low-water zones. It is necessary for the steel to be capable of production utilizing existing production routes/schedules. In addition, it will be a requirement for the steel to be readily weldable, and have appropriate processing characteristics, mechanical properties and microstructure in the as-rolled condition.
