Objective
The aim of this research is to develop a method for calculating the deformations to which thin extra-mild steel sheet is subjected during the pressing of motor-vehicle body components. The development of this method will make it possible to: - use more suitable steel grades (in line with the service properties of components); - shorten the time necessary to prepare sheets for pressing and therefore reduce the cost of that stage in the process; - optimise the pressing operation and therefore improve the quality of the pressed components. This would make it possible to consolidate the position of thin extra-mild steel sheet as a material for motor-vehicle bodies. The research programme combines theoretical work (mathematical formulation of the problem and introduction of equation-solving algorithms) and a considerable amount of experimental work (characterization of the lows governing the behaviour of thin sheet and production of pressings for qualifying and validating the calculation model). This work will be carried out with the collaboration of Renault, Peugeot S.A. and the Research Centre of the Ecole des Mines de Paris.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
