Objective
THE MODE OF ACTION OF BORON AND HOW IT IS INFLUENCED BY TI, AL, ZR AND N IN WATER-QUENCHED AND TEMPERED WELDABLE STRUCTURAL STEELS WILL BE STUDIED USING LABORATORY AND PRODUCTION MELTS OF DEFINED CHEMICAL COMPOSITION.
WITH A VIEW TO DEVELOPING OPTIMUM ALLOYING COMBINATIONS THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN CHEMICAL COMPOSITION, TRANSFORMATION BEHAVIOUR AND STRUCTURE AND THE RESULTANT MECHANICAL PROPERTIES WILL BE ESTABLISHED. METALLURGICAL TESTS WILL BE CARRIED OUT TO OBTAIN A DEEPER INSIGHT INTO THE STRUCTURE AND PRECIPITATION STATE OF BORON-ALLOYED STEELS IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO TAKE SPECIFIC ACTION TO IMPROVE THE PROPERTIES OF THE STEEL.
