Objective
THE AIM OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO DEVELOP NEW PRODUCTION PROCESSES THAT REDUCE THE COST OF HIGH-STRENGTH BOLTS BELONGING TO CLASS 8.8 (YIELD STRENGTH 640N/MM2 AND ULTIMATE TENSILE STRENGTH 800 N/MM2) COMMONLY USED IN THE MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND MOTOR INDUSTRIES.
THE RESEARCH INVOLVES COMPARING THE PROCESSING AND SERVICE PROPERTIES OF HIGH-STRENGTH BOLTS OBTAINED, ON THE ONE HAND, BY THE TRADITIONAL METHOD, I.E. QUENCHING AND TEMPERING AND, ON THE OTHER HAND, FROM A WIRE ROD SUBJECTED TO QUENCHING AND SELF-TEMPERING USING ROLLING HEAT AND FROM A WIRE ROD TEMPERED AND QUENCHED IN COILS USING REHEATING.
THE PROGRAMME RELATES TO TWO DIFFERENT WIRE-ROD DIAMETERS IN THE 8-14 MM RANGE IN EITHER C-MN STEEL TREATED IN THE ROLLING HEAT OR 0.2% C BORON STEEL TEMPERED AND QUENCHED IN COILS.
PRODUCTION TESTS ON INDUSTRIAL PLANTS AND PRODUCT CHARACTERIZATION TESTS IN THE LABORATORY ARE BEING CONDUCTED WITH THE AIM OF:
- STUDYING THE WEAR BEHAVIOUR OF DIFFERENT QUALITIES OF BOLT COLD-STAMPING AND DEBURNING EQUIPMENT;
- DRAWING UP A COMPREHENSIVE FILE ON THE PROPERTIES OF BOLTS MANUFACTURED BY THE NEW PROCESSES WITH A VIEW TO USER ACCEPTANCE.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
